The 6Cs That Brought Me Home To Myself

I recently found myself reflecting on a simple but important question:

How did I actually heal?

Not the polished version.
Not the inspirational version.
But the real one.

When I look back, healing did not happen all at once, and it did not happen through mindset alone. It came in layers. What I see now are the 6 C’s that brought me back to myself:

Centering. Connection. Creativity. Confidence. Clarity. Charge.

Everything began with Centering.

Before anything else, my nervous system had to begin settling down. Not perfectly. Not all at once. But enough that my body was no longer living in constant alarm. Trauma had wired me for survival. Everything in me was braced. Everything was scanning. So the first step was not to think better. It was coming back into my body enough to feel some steadiness again. Enough safety. Enough ground beneath me to start healing from there.

I knew Connection was essential, even if letting it in took time.

Once my nervous system settled enough, I could begin reaching toward life again. I could connect with people. I could let support in. I could begin building community. Healing in isolation only took me so far. At some point, I needed real connection. I needed to rebuild my capacity to trust, because I was not willing to let that trauma take one more thing from me.

Creativity was part of what brought me further back to life.

Drumming. Dancing. Photography. The things that brought me into presence without forcing me to explain myself. Creativity helped me move energy, emotion, and truth without having to package it into words first. It made me feel alive again, and it deepened the healing of my nervous system too.

I longed to return to the Confidence I once knew.

I did that through courageous choices. I rebuilt confidence through courageous acts in places where I had once already known myself to be strong. I returned to the road. I traveled solo. I hiked in places that called me back into myself. Not because I felt fearless, but because somewhere in me, I remembered I had once felt deeply capable there. Reentering those spaces helped me remember again.

Clarity came as a gift.

Clarity cannot be forced. It often arrives after the noise and the pain begin to settle. After Connection returns. After Creativity opens things up. After Confidence starts rebuilding self-trust.

That is when I could see more clearly.
Who I was.
What I needed.
What mattered.
What I was no longer willing to betray in myself.

And from there, Charge felt natural.

Clarity helped me see. Charge helped me move. It was the point where healing stopped being only about recovery and became about leadership. I was no longer just trying to find my footing. I was beginning to lead my life forward again with intention, self-trust, empowerment, and purpose.

I came home to myself not all at once, but through many interwoven pieces of healing. And somewhere along the way, healing stopped being only about surviving what happened to me and became about leading my life from a truer place again.
