I sat staring at this blank screen thinking, Oh my goodness... I am really drawing a blank here! Not a single Idea swirled inside my mind. Do you remember the cartoon of a bumblebee circling inside an empty head cavity? Yep, that was me.
I paused my tunes and took seat on my zafu, centered and connected to Spirit. I asked, What do I need to write about today that someone needs to read?
Instantly a title and idea came to mind about the value of self-marinading. Or you could call it self-ripening if that makes more sense to you.
Sometimes it’s just not ripe yet
Whatever it is that may not be materializing or falling into place just yet in your life, may be because it needs time to ripen. Sometimes you have to just be patient and marinade a bit until it’s right.
An avocado cannot be forced to ripen sooner than it’s ready. It’s just ready when it’s ready and that’s when you slice it open. You can do it sooner… but you know it’s bland, maybe even slightly bitter, and hard as a golfball.
Don’t you love it when you get it at just the right moment? The color is perfect and the flesh is tasty and mashable. The wait was worth it to have it just so.
The same is true for you. When it feels like answers aren’t coming, or you know that something is out of whack, but you’re not sure just what – sometimes, this is when some space and patience is needed.
The Masculine Energy
We mostly live in a masculine energy dominated culture, though I believe that is slowly shifting. The masculine energy is DOing and action-oriented: Take massive action NOW! Just Do It! Quit being a sissy!
There’s not a lot of space or even recognition for the need to STOP. Slow down. Be patient. Listen. Feel. And listen again.
Action-thinking and action-taking are appropriate when we know the direction we are going and we have a focus. Otherwise, we may squander our energy aimlessly, wasting time and valuable resources. All we really needed was to pause for a moment and allow the clouds to pass so clarity can move in.
The Feminine Energy
This energy recognizes the need to pause and ‘marinade’ in ourselves while the idea, concept, understanding, or We, ripen. Feminine energy is patient and abundant, understanding and intuitive. It knows when we allow that knowing to come into our BEing.
In our feminine energy, we recognize when it is time to stop pushing because something needs to settle, find its way through, develop, show up, or ripen. This is when we know it’s time to stop pushing and just give that something the space it needs to evolve into the next thing.
Here’s the frustrating part: Just like the avocado ripens on its own time, this ‘thing’ also only ripens on its own time. We cannot force anything. It has to unfold on its own.
The Perfect Combo
The perfect combination is to know when which is appropriate and engage in both energies in our lives, rather than just one or the other. Either-Or is not necessary. We are best to harmonize both!
Imagine this: You are faced with this ‘thing’ (decision, problem, circumstance, etc.). You are trying to move to the other side of it and the trying is exhausting you. And you feel that you are coming up against a wall at every turn.
Suddenly, it occurs to you to let it sit for a bit. It needs some time and space to evolve or unfold or something. You may not even know what it is, just that it’s time to stop pushing up against it.
When to let up and when to GO
So you do. And you focus on other things instead. You haven’t forgotten about it and you haven’t given up. You are just giving it space. And suddenly, something sparks. Something appears that lets you know to pay attention again to that thing.
And just when you do, ideas and circumstances fall into place, seemingly without much effort even. Maybe it’s even just all sitting there in perfect order waiting for you to step into it.
Now is the time for action-taking! And you know it. You feel the cue. It’s easy.
So now you engage that energy and begin making big moves and taking risks that feel good. And things fit together. Your energy is high and seemingly boundless.
You are in the flow. This is what people call the runner’s high. When it all lines up and the energy supply is bottomless because you are in perfect sync with what you want – and what you want, also wants you.
How can I learn to do this?
It’s about learning to navigate the inner signals that cue us to ‘stop’ or ‘go now’. You may be thinking, Inner signals? I don’t think I have those…
Well, you do! And quite likely, you have been operating on those signals in many areas of your life already. But when the consequences or personal interest is heightened, we can get wound a bit tightly by wanting to make things go a certain way. The way we already have planned in our minds.
But, we all know life doesn’t always work that way – according to ‘Our’ plans. In fact, there’s a saying that goes, ‘If you want to make God laugh, tell him all your plans.’
It really comes down to trust
And I think whether you believe in God or not, you can appreciate the point of this saying. It’s good to have goals and plans, but be flexible in them and allow what needs to unfold the time to do so. This may mean you have to re-route your plan, but you don’t have to give up.
No matter what your beliefs are, you can always trust in the energy of the Universe that wants what’s best for you. Sometimes things have to come apart to come back together in a better way – a way that uplevels your life. We just have to know when to Pause…. and when to Go Forth with Gusto!
So, go find yourself a nice bench with a lovely view and marinade for a bit!
